While English teachers often make time for speech, particularly when exploring argument, the pedagogy of speaking and listening is frequently haphazard and sometimes tokenistic. It is rarely explicitly taught or discussed, which is precisely why Chat Literature aims to change that.

We aim to reimagine ‘speech’ as a purposeful, playful and essential part of learning. Together, we will explore how literary fiction can act as a catalyst for developing students’ capacity to think, form ideas and SPEAK independently in an increasingly technology-dependent world, through play. This literary-based discussion game allows participants to engage in low-stakes, collaborative play that invites curiosity, creativity and connection.
